According to sources, the suspect falsely claimed that he had been sent by the boy’s father to take the child to another location. The deception only became clear later in the day when the father returned home without the boy, prompting the family to raise the alarm.

In a telephone interview with The Guardian, the child’s father, Haruna Hamza Aminu, explained that he immediately reported the abduction to the Kano Command of the DSS after receiving a ransom demand of ₦15 million from the kidnappers.

Aminu confirmed that DSS operatives swiftly tracked the suspect and successfully rescued his son without harm.

“My son was rescued by the DSS and reunited with us in good health,” he said.

He also disclosed that he submitted a written undertaking at the DSS office following the rescue, expressing gratitude to the security agency.

In the undertaking letter sighted by The Guardian, Aminu wrote:

“I, Haruna Hamza Aminu, the father of Muhammad Haruna, received my son who was rescued by the DSS on 12th February 2026 after being kidnapped. He is in good health. I highly commend the security agency for their resilience and hard work.”

The successful operation has drawn praise from residents, highlighting the role of intelligence-led security efforts in combating child abduction and criminal activity in the state.
