The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a high-alert warning over imminent coordinated attacks by suspected Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) operatives targeting communities in Ondo and Kogi States.
Intelligence reports, according to a confidential memo dated October 20, 2025, addressed to the Brigade Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Cantonment, Akure, indicate that the terrorists plan simultaneous assaults on selected locations in both states.

In Ondo State, the identified targets include Eriti Akoko and Oyin Akoko in Akoko North West Local Government Area, and Owo town in Owo Local Government Area.
The memo revealed that ISWAP operatives have begun surveillance of potential soft targets in these areas.
The DSS urged security agencies to scale up vigilance and strengthen security measures to prevent any attacks. “The groups have commenced surveillance on potential soft targets in the above-mentioned locations.
Consequently, there is a need to scale up the level of security alertness in the various communities to forestall any untoward situation,” the memo stated.

Signed by H.I. Kana J. on behalf of the State Director of Security, Ondo State, the warning was copied to relevant military and security formations for immediate action.
The alert comes amid rising concerns over the spread of terrorist activities beyond Nigeria’s North-East into parts of the South-West and North-Central regions.
Recent reports include bandit attacks in Kaduna State, where a hospital in Kujama town was stormed, leading to the abduction of five patients, a medical doctor on duty, and a security guard. The attack also left a security officer seriously injured.
In related incidents, bandits killed two police officers at Zonkwa Divisional Police Headquarters in Southern Kaduna and killed nine people, including three minors, in Layin Danauta village, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
