Tottenham led the chase for the 27-year-old Crystal Palace midfielder, but Arsenal jumped in after Kai Havertz suffered a knee injury.

Eze, once released by Arsenal as a teenager, now has the chance to return to the Emirates as a proven star.

The Athletic reports that Arsenal agreed a deal in principle with Palace worth around £68 million.

The fee matches Tottenham’s offer and the value of Eze’s expired release clause.

Arsenal Set to Hijack Tottenham’s £68m Move for Eberechi Eze

Arsenal pushed harder for the move after Havertz skipped training this week despite playing against Manchester United.

The Gunners, who finished second to Liverpool last season, want Eze to boost their title push.

Spurs also need reinforcements after a poor league campaign, even though they celebrated Europa League success.

Eze played in Palace’s draw with Chelsea last weekend and should feature in Thursday’s Conference League play-off.

Meanwhile, Palace coach Oliver Glasner who guided Palace to FA Cup and Community Shield success last season quickly shut down the transfer noise, insisting that the English winger remains focused on the team.

“Before Chelsea, I think many of you were surprised that Marc and Ebs started and played almost the whole game. Most of you will be surprised that they will start again tomorrow because of all the rumours. But again, they are committed.” – Glasner said.

He stressed that both players will give “100 percent” until they leave the club.
