The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Ezeoke Chidera, a native of Egugho Ezzagu in Ishielu Local Government Area, for the alleged murder of a septuagenarian, Mrs. Awoke Rose.

In a statement issued to journalists, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, revealed that the suspect and the deceased lived in the same compound, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the motive behind the gruesome act.

The statement reads: “On 02/06/2025 at about 0600hrs, we received a report that one Ezeoke Chidera, who lives in the same compound with Mrs Awoke Rose, ‘F’ aged about 60-year at Egugho Ezzagu in Ishielu LGA, attacked the said Mrs Awoke Rose hitting her several times with a shovel and abandoned her in a pool of her blood. Officers of the command were able to apprehend the suspect; the command is currently investigating to understand the motive of the brazen attack.”

Police say the suspect is in custody and will face prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Operatives of the Osun State Amotekun Corps have arrested two men in separate incidents involving attempted rape of underage girls.

The state Amotekun Commander, Isaac Omoyele, revealed the arrests during a suspect parade held on Tuesday in Osogbo.
