According to the church council, bandits invaded an ECWA church during a worship service and abducted eight members.
Among those taken was Mrs. Omole, the wife of the minister in charge of the church.
However, security sources confirmed that three of the abducted members were later rescued through the efforts of joint security forces.
In a statement, the church leadership said it received the news with great sadness, noting that the attack has deeply affected members of the congregation.
The council said the incident is another troubling development affecting ECWA churches and communities in the Kwara South Senatorial District.
The church council also urged security agencies to intensify proactive measures to protect lives and property.
According to the council, authorities should not only respond after attacks occur, but should work to prevent such incidents before they happen.
The church leadership said members are praying for the safe return of the remaining abductees.
“The District Executive commits these our beloved brethren into God’s hands, praying earnestly for their safety and speedy release,” the council said.
They also prayed for comfort for the families affected and strength for the church during the difficult time.
The incident comes amid continuing security challenges in several parts of Nigeria, where bandits, terrorists, and other criminal groups have carried out kidnappings and attacks on communities.
Although the Federal Government previously declared a state of emergency on security, many communities still face recurring threats.
