As the Edo State governorship election commenced, security operatives strictly enforced a no-movement order issued by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

A combined team of police and military personnel was visible on major streets in Benin, turning back vehicles and scrutinizing those carrying journalists.

Roadblocks were established on key routes, including portions of Ringroad, Sakponba Road, and Ihama Road, to facilitate secure voting. Many residents opted to trek to their polling units, often stopped by security for identification.

“The heightened security is good to prevent any chaos,” noted a local resident, Adesuwa, acknowledging the necessity of such measures to deter potential disturbances.
