The Edo State Government has launched an investigation into a 17-year-old who reportedly paid in full for 14,000 hectares of land—about 140 square kilometers.

Governor Monday Okpebholo has suspended all Certificates of Occupancy linked to the deal until the teenager explains the source of his funds, as part of a wider crackdown on land grabbing.

Okpebholo made the announcement while addressing an NGO that flagged the case, stressing his administration’s commitment to transparency in land matters.

Online reactions were filled with humor and disbelief, with many questioning how vast the land is—some joking it could cover entire districts—while others urged authorities to also probe widespread youth poverty instead of just sudden wealth.
