Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri has described the outcome of the Edo State governorship election as a “shameful exercise” that undermines Nigeria’s democratic process.
Fintiri’s criticism comes after the National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Monday Okpebholo as winner of the September 21 election.
In a statement, Fintiri lamented the alleged irregularities that marred the poll, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of desperate attempts to discredit him.
Fintiri denied claims that he announced false results, clarifying that he merely shared data from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) official portal.

He slammed the APC’s national chairman for flouting movement restrictions on election day and using a private jet, while governors from the party allegedly used armoured escorts to intimidate voters.
The Adamawa State Governor condemned the reported vote-buying, disruption of collation processes, and suspicious results that exceeded accredited voter numbers.
He warned that such blatant disregard for democratic norms threatens the very foundations of Nigeria’s democracy.
Therefore, Fintiri called for accountability and urged Nigerians to demand better from their leaders, as the world watches closely.
