Edo Guber: Obidients Criticize Peter Obi over Candidate Choice

Edo Guber: Obidients Criticize Peter Obi over Candidate Choice | Daily Report Nigeria

A group of supporters of Peter Obi, Obidients United For Equity, Justice, and Fairness, has publicly criticized the Labour Party (LP) leader for allegedly abandoning his principles in the upcoming Edo State governorship election.

Led by Blessing Edobor, the group questioned Obi’s endorsement of Olumide Akpata, cousin of Governor Godwin Obaseki, despite Akpata’s ties to the same region as Obaseki.

The group argued that Obi’s actions contradict his previous emphasis on justice, equity, fairness, and inclusiveness, values that earned him widespread support in the 2022/2023 presidential election.

They pointed out that Obi’s campaign council reflected regional and religious balance, yet he failed to apply the same principles in Edo State.

Key Concerns Raised by Obidients United

Hypocrisy: Obi chose Dr. Yunusa Tanko as his campaign spokesperson over more qualified candidates to ensure regional and religious balance, but ignored this principle in Edo State.

Inclusiveness: Obi’s candidacy was endorsed by various regional forums, including PANDEF, Afenifere, and Ohanaeze, based on his commitment to justice, equity, and fairness.

Partisanship over Principles: Obi prioritized his party’s interests over the call for justice and fairness in Edo State, allegedly due to personal ambition.

The group has thrown its support behind Asue Ighodalo, whom they consider the most competent candidate, guaranteeing justice, equity, fairness, and inclusion.

Also, they urged Edo voters to reject Obi’s candidate and choose Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie on September 21, 2024.
