The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the peace agreement facilitated by the National Peace Committee, citing police bias and partisanship by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The party’s chairman, Dr Tony Aziegbiemi, and its governorship candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo, addressed journalists at the party secretariat on Thursday, alleging that 16 members had been arrested and detained for over six weeks, with six others declared fugitives.

Aziegbiemi accused the police and INEC of aligning with the All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that the PDP would only sign the peace agreement if their demands were met.

These include the immediate release of detained members, redeployment of the current Commissioner of Police and REC, and an undertaking by the police and INEC to operate a level playing field.

“The situation has degenerated into an all-out reign of terror, with APC members acting as pointers for effecting illegal arrests and rendition of PDP members without charge,” Aziegbiemi said.
