The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Nemi Iwo, has rejected allegations linking his recent deployment to influence from the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Iwo described the suggestion as “laughable” and emphasized that his assignment was a routine procedure within the Police Force.

He stated that he has no personal or professional ties with Wike and that their paths have never crossed.

Iwo also highlighted that the Police cannot influence the outcome of any election, as more senior officers have been deployed to supervise the conduct of the Edo election.

He added that the innovations adopted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) do not give the Police any powers or privileges to influence the outcome of any election.

The Commissioner urged the public to disregard the allegations and reassured them of the command’s commitment to neutrality and professionalism throughout the election period.

In other news, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has expressed the commission’s readiness to conduct local government elections nationwide if provided with the necessary resources.
