EFCC Arrests Former Edo Governor, Lucky Igbinedion Over N1.6bn fraud

Lucky Igbinedion, a former governor of Edo State, has reportedly been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over a N1.6 billion fraud allegations.

Igbinedion who was governor from 2003 to 2007 is alleged of diverting public funds and is currently being grilled at the EFCC headquarters, Abuja.

The former governor is accused of diverting a loan obtained by the Edo State government to a private company with his interest in it.

Recall that Igbinedion was formerly prosecuted by the EFCC in 2008 and was convicted of embezzling about N2.9 billion belonging to Edo State, serving a six months sentence after pleading guilty.

Wilson Uwujaren, spokesman of the EFCC confirmed the detention of Igbinedion, but refused to give further details.
