EFCC Arrests Willie Obiano After Handing Over to Charles Soludo | Daily Report Nigeria

Immediate past governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano was on Thursday arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFFC.

PUNCH reports that the EFCC arrested Obiano at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, hours after handling over to Charles Soludo.

Obiano, who had been on the watch list of the anti-graft agency, was apprehended while trying to board a flight to the United States.

Daily Report Nigeria can recall that the EFCC had in a letter to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service on November 15, 2021, asked for Obiano to be placed on its watch list.

The agency also asked to be informed of any attempt for Obiano to travel out of the country from any of the International airports and other points of entry and exit.

Obiano’s Commissioner for Information, Don Adinuba, had dared agency, saying his boss would return to his original US base after leaving office.

Obiano is said to have dashed to the and proceeded to the international airport immediately after handing over to Prof Charles Soludo.

On being sighted at about 8.30pm, immigration officers alerted the EFCC, whose operatives immediately arrested Obiano and took him their office in Lagos.

His arrest was confirmed by EFCV Spokesman Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, who said;

“It is true. He was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport around 8.30pm.”

Obiano served as governor of Anambra State under the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, from 2014 to 2022 after succeeding Peter Obi.
