The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, in response to multiple petitions submitted against him.
Speaking with BBC News Pidgin on Monday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale revealed that the activist was detained following allegations of cyberstalking made by several complainants.
“We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners,” Oyewale stated.

He further explained that the commission intends to arraign Otse and will release him once he fulfills the bail conditions. “We will release him when he meets the bail conditions and we will take the case to court as soon as possible; we are law-abiding,” he said.
When asked whether the case had any ties to Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), Oyewale clarified that the complaints came from multiple individuals and not from the bank, stressing that the EFCC is obligated to protect the interests of those petitioners.
Oyewale added that preparations are underway to formally charge the social media activist in court.
