The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has handed over 53 vehicles and a total of $180,300 to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that the assets were stolen from Canadian citizens by fraudsters.

EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, made the announcement during a ceremony in Abuja, revealing the success of inter-agency cooperation between Nigeria and other countries in combating corruption.

The recoveries include $164,000 stolen from a Canadian woman, Elena Bogomas, in a romance scam, and $16,300 from another victim, Sandra Butler.

Olukoyede stressed Nigeria’s commitment to fighting financial crimes and reassured that the country is not a hub for such activities.

He said:
We are here today to witness the handover of assets recovered on behalf of Canadian victims of cybercrime. The operations have taken a couple of years and have resulted in a substantial recovery.

“Nigeria is always ready to fight financial crimes and will never tolerate any act of financial crime.”

Furthermore, the EFCC Chairman pledged to continue investigating, prosecuting, and recovering assets for victims of financial crimes.
