Suspects to face charges after investigations into procurement and money laundering violations.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr. Moses Thomas Sule, along with 14 other former lawmakers, over a N2.5 billion vehicle scandal linked to alleged abuse of office and money laundering.
Operatives of the EFCC’s Makurdi Zonal Directorate made the arrest on Tuesday, 17 June 2025, following petitions from aggrieved citizens in Plateau State who raised concerns over how luxury vehicles bought with public funds were misappropriated.
In a statement by the commission, the ex-legislators allegedly violated the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and were involved in irregular procurement procedures during their short stint in office.

The 14 others arrested include Gwottson Fom, Sani Abubakar, Jwe Philip Gwom, Thomas Dantong, Happiness Mathew Akawu, Cornelius Dotyok, Agbalak Ibrahim, Danjuma Azi, Fwangje Bala Ndat, Salome Tanimu Wanglet, Namba Rimuyat, Nimchak Rims, Ishaku Maren, and Paul Datugun.
The EFCC said investigation revealed the former lawmakers were in office for only six months, during which the Plateau State Government purchased luxury vehicles worth N2.5 billion for them.
“Upon leaving office, the vehicles were meant to be returned to the state government but were taken away by the legislators. All efforts to retrieve them have proved abortive,” the EFCC disclosed.
The statement further noted that due to the lawmakers’ refusal to return the vehicles, the state government was compelled to procure another set of vehicles worth N2 billion for the incoming Assembly members.
The EFCC confirmed that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
