Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has revealed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is preparing to arrest him following the end of his tenure on November 14, 2024.

Speaking on Thursday at the EdoBEST National Results-Sharing Session in Abuja, Obaseki confirmed receiving information about the planned arrest, which he attributed to alleged fraud.

The governor, however, expressed confidence in his administration’s transparency, asserting that he had no fear of the EFCC investigation. “I hear that the EFCC will pick me up next week after my tenure.

Wherever they keep me, I’ll spend time doing research,” Obaseki stated, emphasizing that he had nothing to hide.

Referring to the petitions against him, Obaseki dismissed them as politically motivated. “They’ve written all sorts of unfounded petitions against me. I believe in Edo State. I just focused on what I believe in, and today, you can see what has been accomplished,” he added, further accusing his political opponents of envy and bitterness.

Obaseki, who completed eight years in office, described his achievements in Edo State as significant and enduring.

He highlighted his administration’s focus on reforms and civil service improvement, stressing that his priorities were always centered on the people of the state.

“I’m not afraid; I’m not worried. The political witch-hunt is their problem, not mine. What matters is the legacy we have left behind,” he concluded.

The Edo State governorship election, which took place on September 21, 2024, saw the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, emerging victorious over his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
