Eyewitnesses described the UNIJOS crash as both shocking and avoidable. A witness told Channels Television that the bus was travelling at high speed and attempted an unsafe overtaking manoeuvre before the driver lost control, resulting in a violent collision with the trailer.
The Plateau State FRSC Sector Commander, Corps Commander Olajide Mogaji, said an investigation into the accident has begun. He cautioned motorists, especially commercial drivers to stop engaging in dangerous habits such as speeding, night driving, and operating a vehicle while exhausted or under the influence.

In his warning to Nigerians, Mogaji said: “The government needs you alive and wants you to live life to the fullest this festive season and beyond. Please avoid night journeys and report any road emergencies through our toll-free line, 122.”
The University of Jos has not yet released an official statement regarding the deaths, but the campus remains tense as students mourn their colleagues.
The tragic UNIJOS accident adds to the growing number of road crashes recorded this month across Nigeria, reigniting calls for better enforcement of traffic laws and improved road safety awareness.
