Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has refused to respond to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), describing his silence as a constitutional right rather than defiance.

El-Rufai submitted two handwritten statements to ICPC officers on February 19 and 20, 2026, in the presence of his lawyer, Ubong E. Akpan.

In the statements, he argued that the ongoing probe was politically motivated and insisted that any allegations should be addressed in court.

He reaffirmed his position in a follow-up statement on February 20, noting that additional documents presented by investigators would also be responded to only in a judicial setting.

El-Rufai highlighted that his role in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) made him a target of political pressure.

Meanwhile, the ICPC had secured a 14-day remand order from a Chief Magistrate Court in Bwari, set to expire on March 5, 2026.
