A source within the commission confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday that the former governor was still undergoing interrogation and would remain in custody overnight.

“As I am talking to you now, the former governor is still with our interrogators and he will be spending the night with them,” the source said.

The official added that the EFCC was committed to conducting a thorough and professional investigation into the allegations levelled against the former governor.

“I can assure you that the EFCC will do its job professionally by attending to all issues raised against him,”the source stated.

The EFCC source declined to confirm when El-Rufai would be released or charged to court, explaining that the decision would depend on how quickly investigations are concluded.

El-Rufai is currently being held at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
