Elon Musk Unveils AI Company | Daily Report Nigeria

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tesla Motors, Elon Musk on Wednesday, unveiled his Artificial Intelligence company named xAI.

Musk’s xAI aimed to compete with OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT.

The Tesla mogul believed that ChatGPT was biased and irresponsible.

According to him, the xAI website will operate separately from his other companies and will benefit those companies, including Twitter.

The goal of xAI is to understand the true nature of the universe.

Musk on Twitter added that the new company aimed to “understand reality” and answer life’s biggest questions.

Daily Report Nigeria learnt that the startup was staffed by former researchers from OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Tesla, and the University of Toronto.

The team took advice from Dan Hendricks, who currently heads the Center for AI Safety, a San Francisco-based group that has warned against advancing artificial intelligence too quickly.

Hendricks also sent an open letter to world leaders in June, warning that AI was as big an existential threat to humanity as pandemics and nuclear war.

Musk also had repeatedly warned of the dangers of AI, calling it “our greatest existential threat” and saying that moving too fast is like “summoning a demon.”

He said he co-founded OpenAI in 2015 because he thought Google’s AI efforts were reckless.

He left OpenAI in 2018 to focus on Tesla, later saying he was also uncomfortable with the for-profit direction the company had taken under CEO Sam Altman.

Musk also maintained that OpenAI’s big language model, on which ChatGPT relied for content, like other AI programs, was too politically correct.

In April, Musk shared details of his plans to create a new artificial intelligence tool called “TruthGPT” in an interview with conservative broadcaster Fox News.

In the interview, he said his new AI company would be a latecomer to OpenAI and Google’s DeepMind, both of which have seen success in recent years.

He said:
I think I want to create a third chance, even if it’s late in the game. Can it be done? I don’t know, we’ll see.”
