Emmanuel Petit, former France midfielder, suggests that Xabi Alonso from Bayer Leverkusen could step in as a suitable replacement for Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.
With Pochettino facing scrutiny after a lackluster debut season, Petit advocates for Alonso, who has also been linked with the Liverpool managerial position.
Despite his success at Leverkusen, where he’s propelled the team to the Bundesliga summit, Alonso is seen as a potential candidate to lead Chelsea forward.

Petit told Betway: “I think that Chelsea need a proper manager with a vision, just like what [Mikel] Arteta had for Arsenal.
“But they need to give him time to implement what he wants to do with the players.
“Mourinho is free, so he could be an option. But he’s not my preference, there are new managers who are doing great things.
“I’m thinking about Xabi Alonso for example, I’m very impressed with his work in Germany but there are many great managers that are available.
“Mourinho could be a choice, he’s been successful at the club but we all know that he comes with drama.
“I’m not sure that’s what Chelsea need. They need someone calm and they need continuity at the club.”
