Nigerian comedian and activist, Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has reaffirmed his commitment to the #EndSARS struggle, declaring that Nigerians will never forgive or forget the tragic events of October 20, 2020.
Commemorating five years since the incident, the entertainer reflected on the lives and dreams lost during the youth-led protest against police brutality.

He wrote on Facebook on Monday: “Nigerian youths lost their lives, jobs, families, and dreams at the hands of the most corrupt and evil people we call leaders! Even though some of us are deeply in love with our oppressors, this day — 20/10/2020 — is never to be forgotten nor forgiven!”
Across social media platforms, Nigerians marked the fifth anniversary of the #EndSARS protest, especially the Lekki Toll Gate incident, where peaceful demonstrators were allegedly shot by security operatives.
Thousands of users on X (formerly Twitter) shared emotional tributes and messages honouring victims of the 2020 protest one of the largest youth-led movements in Nigeria’s history.

An X user, @_DeeeCR7, wrote: “To every soul we lost to police brutality and the End SARS protest — your courage still echoes. You deserved better, but Nigeria has only grown darker under this same wicked system. Rest on, heroes.”
Another user, @thisisdmt01, added: “RIP to the heroes we lost at the End SARS protest. You’re never forgotten. The courage of 2020 changed Nigeria forever.”
Despite official denials and conflicting reports, human rights groups maintain that the October 20, 2020 Lekki Toll Gate shooting remains a symbol of impunity and lack of accountability in Nigeria’s governance structure.
Five years later, no individual or institution has been held fully accountable for the violence that ended the protest. Victims and families of those affected continue to demand justice.
The #EndSARS movement, which began as an online campaign against police brutality, evolved into a nationwide call for justice, accountability, and good governance. The tragic events of that night, however, remain etched in the country’s collective memory.
