Kolawole Akinlayo, a member of the House of Representatives from Ekiti, has urged Nigerians to give President Bola Tinubu more time to address the country’s challenges, saying that he inherited a legacy of bad governance.

Akinlayo, who is a member of the same political party as Tinubu, explained that the previous administration, led by Muhammadu Buhari, had an eight-year tenure.

During a press conference in Abuja on Monday, Akinlayo acknowledged that bad governance has been a longstanding issue in Nigeria, predating Tinubu’s administration.

He stressed the need for patience, stating that fixing the inherited structural problems will take time.

Akinlayo appealed to the protesting youths to suspend their demonstrations and engage in dialogue with the government instead.

According to him, the President has outlined various projects aimed at addressing the country’s challenges and encouraged the youths to consider the president’s offer of dialogue.

He also addressed the distribution of rice to states, stating that he did not receive any rice, but governors did.

However, he mentioned that lawmakers received a truck of fertilizer, which he had distributed to his constituency.

Akinlayo pointed out the importance of making realistic demands from the government, citing the example of requesting a reversal of the pump price to N157 per liter as unrealistic.

He advocated for a more constructive approach to engaging with the government to address the country’s challenges.
