Eniola Aluko Makes History as First Black Woman Club Owner in Italy
Eniola Aluko, former England women’s player, has broken barriers by becoming the first black woman to own a club in Italy. She recently acquired a significant stake in FC Como’s female team, marking a milestone in the country’s football landscape.
Aluko, 37, shared the news on her social media platform, revealing her involvement in a $100 million ownership group named Mercury 13, which secured a majority share in the club.
FC Como Women, established in 2020, currently competes in the top tier of Italian women’s football, Serie A, and calls a 3,700-capacity stadium home.
Born in Lagos to Nigerian parents in 1987, Eniola later naturalized to England, where she represented the national team, earning accolades as a talented and influential player.
