Liverpool players celebrate in their 9-0 win against Bournemouth

Liverpool on Saturday whitewashed Bournemouth 9-0 to kick-start a winning run in the English Premier League.

The win sees the Reds equal the record of the biggest win in the English top flight.

Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp had described his side’s performance in the new campaign as a “false start” following two draws and Monday night’s defeat at Manchester United.

However, the team responded with a resounding victory to equal the record previously held by their most recent nemesis, United and Leicester City.

Manchester United twice achieved the feat against Ipswich in 1995 and against Southampton 2021, with Leicester City registering same score line against the Saints in 2019.

Liverpool started perfectly with two quick goals in the opening five minutes against the Cherries.

Luis Diaz rose highest to score a header, while Harvey Elliott curled in a sublime strike from outside the box to register his first top flight goal.

Defender Trent Alexander-Arnold then thumped a long-range shot into the top corner, before Roberto Firmino scored the fourth goal after assisting the first threw goals.

Virgil van Dijk, Fabio Carvalho, and a Chris Mepham own goal completed the rout with both Firmino and Diaz grabbing a brace each.

For Bournemouth, this was their third consecutive league defeat without scoring after beating Aston Villa in their opening game of the season.
