Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes the team’s performances will improve once left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are fit and available again.
Ten Hag has been under increasing pressure following a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham and a 3-3 draw with Porto.
Shaw has yet to play this season due to a calf injury, while Malacia has been sidelined with a knee issue since the summer of 2023. Both players are not expected to return until after the October international break.

When asked about Diogo Dalot’s temporary role as a left-back, Erik Ten Hag explained his decision: “Why Dalot at left-back? For the patterns I prefer right now, Diogo is better suited than Noussair Mazraoui, although both are naturally right-backs.”
He went on to emphasize the impact of missing key players in that position, adding, “We’ve had personnel issues at left-back for a while. Our team will improve once we have a consistent, left-footed left-back. We’re waiting for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia to return, and their presence will certainly help our consistency.”
