  • Rise of chaos in Abeokuta as an ex-convict attacks a police officer during a confrontation.
  • He allegedly tried to snatch an AK-47 from officers stationed near an armoured vehicle.
  • When he couldn’t get the rifle, he stabbed the officer he accused of sleeping with his wife.
  • Police subdued the ex-convict, tied him up, and took him into custody.

Residents of Panseke in Abeokuta were thrown into confusion when an ex-convict stormed the area and launched an attack on policemen stationed near an armoured vehicle. The man, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, rode into the area on a motorcycle before approaching the officers on duty.

Witnesses say the suspect attempted to grab an AK-47 rifle from one of the officers. He reportedly claimed the gun was meant to kill another policeman, the one he accused of having an affair with his wife and framing him, which he said led to his imprisonment.

When the officers resisted, the ex-convict struggled aggressively to gain control of the weapon. Realizing he could not overpower the officer, he allegedly pulled out a knife from his trousers and stabbed the policeman he accused of being involved with his wife.

The unexpected attack sparked panic among onlookers. Additional officers stationed with the armoured vehicle quickly intervened. Working together, they subdued the attacker, tied both his hands and legs, and removed him from the scene.

“He was shouting that the officer ruined his life and that he came to take revenge,” an eyewitness narrated.

At the time of this report, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, said she had not yet received official details regarding the incident.
