Abbas Sani Abbas, the former Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) after being sacked by Governor Abba Yusuf.
Abbas, who was a card-carrying member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), announced his defection during a visit to the Kano residence of Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I Jibrin, on Friday.
According to Ismail Mudashir, Special Adviser to the Deputy Senate President on Media and Publicity, Abbas’s defection is part of a larger trend.

“In the past six months, hundreds of leaders of the NNPP from across the 44 local government areas of Kano State have dumped the party and the Kwankwsiyya Movement together with thousands of their supporters,” Mudashir said.
The mass defection, dubbed the ‘Barau Tsunami’, has seen thousands of NNPP members abandon their red caps, the symbol of the Kwankwsiyya Movement in Kano State, and join the APC.
Many Feared Dead as 2-Storey Building Collapses in Abuja
Dozens of occupants of a two-story building have been feared dead after its collapse.
Daily Report Nigeria reports that the building situated along Lagos Street in Garki, Abuja collapsed around 11 pm.
