BREAKING: Ex-Nigerian Minister, Bello Maitama Yusuf is Dead

Sen Alh Dr Bello Maitama Yusuf, a prominent politician, successful businessman, and former minister for internal affairs and commerce is dead.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that Yusuf passed away at the age of 78.

Before his death, he represented the Jigawa South West constituency as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, first elected in April 1999 and subsequently reelected in April 2003.

During his political career, Senator Yusuf held key ministerial positions, serving as the minister for internal affairs in 1979 and the minister for commerce in 1982.

His tenure as the minister for commerce was particularly noteworthy, as he played a crucial role in addressing the issue of excessive imports, which had been adversely affecting Nigeria’s foreign reserves.

In recognition of his contributions and achievements, the late Senator was honored with the title of “Sardaunan Dutse” in his home state of Jigawa.

Also, he was awarded the prestigious national honor of Grand Commander of the Niger (GCON).
