The Niger Delta Student’s Union Government, NIDSUG, has honored revered environmental activist, Chief Comrade Sheriff Mulade with an award of The Distinguished Leader in The Niger Delta.

The award which has only previously been given to unarguable leader and father of the Niger Delta, Pa Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, was bestowed on Comrade Mulade over the weekend in Warri.

According Comrade Mackson, “the award is reserved for worthy sons of the Niger Delta with impeccable and verifiable track record of leadership, patriotism and commitment to the development of the region.”

He stressed that “Comrade Sheriff has over the years carved out a niche in the struggle for development and emancipation of the region, noting that even as an individual, the environmental enthusiast and peace advocate has long written his name in gold in the anals of history.”

The award presentation was preceded by a citation capturing a long history of records and events influenced and achieved by the Gbaramatu-born activist.

On his part, the National Coordinator of the Centre For Peace and Environment Justice (CEPEJ) and recipient of the award, Comrade Chief Mulade expressed gratitude to the NIDSUG entourage for the award.

Reiterating that such nature of award is only worthy for elder statesman like Pa Edwin Clark and those on same cadre with him, Mulade pledged that the award signifies a call for more commitment to the course and service.

“I am surprised by this award and it has never crossed my thoughts. Awards like this are deserved by leaders in the cadre of our father, E. K Clark while we are following in that path.

“I’m deeply elated to have received this award. On behalf of CEPEJ, my staff, we thank you for the accolade,” he said.
