“He knocked at my door around after 11 to 12. I never wanted to open the door cos it was already late and I was sleepy, but when the knock continued, I stood up and went to check his reason for knocking at my door that very hour.

“He said he wants to boost his phone that his battery was down. I allowed him in as usual because he always comes to charge, but has never knocked at that time before.

On how the attack happened, he said;

“At a time he said he wants to ease himself. I directed him to my bathroom he went in and wasted some time, then I became suspicious. I looked and then saw him coming out.

“He sat down and started pressing his phone, few minutes later again he said he wants to ease himself again, at this time I was already sleepy holding my phone in my hand, while waiting for him to leave so I can lock my door then go to bed.

“Then all of a sudden, he took his phone, stood up as if he was leaving, he opened the door then came back in but this time, he locked the door with the iron bolt, which I left open and protector outside when he came in.

“I left them open so that it can be easy for him to leave then I will just lock my door then go to bed.

“He came back inside and said no that the phones not full yet, and then plugged it again but this time he has already bolted the door which I left open when I let him in.

“While seating on the chair pressing my phone and waiting for him to leave ,I fell asleep while holding my phone then it fell down. Immediately the phone fell, I regained my self then bent down to pick it.

“That was when I saw him coming out from my kitchen with my kitchen knife and a hammer, (the hammer a carpenter told me to buy which was used to hang my wine bar fix my wardrobe and other things.)

Lance Corporal Obisesan Adebayo, the suspect

“He tried hitting me with the hammer on the head while I dogged it, he stabbed me on the neck with my kitchen knife, saying “I will kill you today” and speaking Yoruba which I don’t understand.

“He was trying so hard to stabbed and hit me to death while I prayed a silent prayer in my heart asking God not to allow me die tonight.

“I don’t know how I got the strength to fight him and defend my self, while he was trying so hard to hit me and stabbed me to death, I shouted but nobody could hear me because the generator noice was much at around 12:48 Am.

“I tried opening unbolting my door but he hit me with the hammer and bolt it back as I removed my hand.

“I tried multiple times to unbolt my door and ran outside no way, I shouted, no way.”

At this point, Jude said he had nothing else to do other than fight his way out of it.

“I had no other choice than to just fight my way out. He tried stabbing me on the eye, I dogged it, then got hold of the knife. I held the sharp edge not minding it I got cut, I held it so hard as he tried pulling the knife out of my hand , but I can’t believe I had the strength to hold that knife at that sharp edge to the extent it could bend and almost broke.

“I managed to push him and he hit his back on my iron door. I saw little space so I ran into the kitchen while bleeding from everywhere and falling at the same time. I took the other kitchen knife but I didn’t come out.

“I later came out, went to the room, tied my shirt on my neck as I was bleeding heavily. I locked myself there. I could only call my dad because his number was the only number connecting that night.

“I called and called then suddenly I could reach my friend who was staying close, I told him to come quick that I have been attacked and I need help because I was bleeding. He said okey let him contact two other guys.

“He was on his way when my neighbors’ generator went off. I heard their voice when they came down to pour fuel into their generator. They started running immediately they saw me with blood all over my face. I stoped them and told them it’s me that I have been attacked by DJs friend.

“They quickly ran inside and I followed them, while still bleeding they called other tenants, they came out and then accompanied me to the nearby hospital,” Jude narrated.

On what could lead to the attack on him by Adebayo, Jude said he has never had issues with neither Adebayo nor his host, and cannot think of a possible reason for the suspect to attack him.

The suspect is still at large, while Jude was admitted in an undisclosed hospital receiving treatment for his wounds.

The matter was reported at the GRA Police Station Asaba, leading to the arrest of Jude’s neighbor who housed the suspect.

The suspect is still at large as of press time.
