Eyewitnesses said the blast shattered the calm of the worship centre, marking a rare incident, as Maiduguri residents have not recorded a bomb explosion within the city in recent times.

As of press time, details on casualties or the extent of damage remained unclear.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in Borno State, ASP Kenneth Daso, were unsuccessful, as his phone lines could not be reached.
