Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has accused the National Assembly of dubiously placing their rules above the Nigerian Constitution and laws.
Ezekwesili made this statement in response to the lawmakers’ handling of the allegation of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Ezekwesili described Nigerian lawmakers as “nation-destroyers” who behave with impunity because they have taken a chokehold on democracy.
She emphasized that the Constitution is the supreme law of the land, and all Senate rules must align with its provisions.

In a post on her X handle, Ezekwesili wrote, “#Democracy101: Stop Enabling and Endorsing Democratic Aberration, Citizens… Do US Senate Rules supersede the US Constitution? No, U.S. Senate rules do not supersede the U.S. Constitution. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land, and all Senate rules must align with its provisions.” She added,
“@nassnigeria @NGRSenate @HouseNGR have dubiously placed their ‘Senate Rules’ above the Nigerian Constitution, the Laws of the Land and Judicial Precedents. The tail is now wagging the dog. A dangerous thing.”
