FA CUP: Arteta Apologises as Arsenal Limps Out after 1-0 Loss to Nottingham

Arsenal has disappointedly succumbed to a 1-0 defeat against a second-tier Nottingham Forest at the third round of FA Cup on Sunday, 9th.

The Gunners have been so defeated in the competition for the second time since 1996.

Meanwhile, the club’s boss, Mikel Arteta has apologised for his side’s display in the stunning loss to the relegated club.

Lewis Grabban’s single goal in the 83rd minute helped the Garibaldi to make it to the fourth round of the tournament.

Steve Cooper’s citizens will therefore, take on Leicester City in the fourth round.

Other Premier League clubs that have limped out of the competition include Burnley, Newcastle United, Sheffield United and Watford.

Meanwhile, either Manchester United or Aston Villa will certainly join the queue after a clash scheduled for Monday night.

Arteta said after the defeat: “We were not good enough, and we have to apologise for it.”

“We needed more drive, more hunger to win at any cost in every single action, much more. We were not at our level.”

“I’m really disappointed with the performance, first of all. Not with the attitude but how much purpose we have and what determination we showed to change the game when it’s difficult to play against the way they play.”

He added: “I have played in games like that for the past 18 years and I know how complicated it is to come here. It’s no surprise the difficulties you are going to face. But when we do that, we have to face it in a different way.”

“It is really hurting. It is a competition that is very related to our history and to get out of it is a big bump.”
