The Federal Government, through the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has closed the Lagos airspacefollowing a fire outbreak at Terminal One of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA).
FAAN announced the closure on Monday evening, explaining that the decision was taken strictly in line with established aviation safety protocols.

“Lagos airspace closed; no flights in and out. No flight can land,” the authority said in a brief update.
The fire incident occurred at Terminal One of the airport, prompting immediate emergency response measures and the suspension of all inbound and outbound flights.
FAAN also confirmed the safe rescue of 14 individuals who were initially trapped during the fire outbreak.
According to the airport authority, a crane was deployed to the Control Tower to aid rescue operations, leading to the successful evacuation of everyone trapped in the building.
No casualties were reported, and FAAN said further updates would be provided as investigations and safety assessments continue.
