The year 2025 recorded several tragic car crashes involving prominent figures in sports, entertainment and business, drawing global attention to road safety concerns.

Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota died in a fatal car crash in Spain’s Zamora province on July 3, 2025. The 28-year-old footballer was travelling in a Lamborghini when the vehicle reportedly veered off the road and burst into flames. His younger brother, André Silva, aged 25, also lost his life in the accident.

Vince Zampella
In the United States, video game industry heavyweight Vince Zampella, co-creator of the Call of Duty franchise, died in a car accident on December 21, 2025. The 55-year-old gaming executive was involved in a crash in the San Gabriel Mountains near Los Angeles after his Ferrari hit a concrete barrier and caught fire.
Grammy-nominated R&B singer and songwriter Angie Stone also died in a car crash in March 2025. The 63-year-old music star was killed near Montgomery, Alabama, when the vehicle she was travelling in was struck by a semi-truck. She was reported to be the sole fatality in the incident.
Rajiv Ruparelia
In East Africa, Ugandan businessman and rally driver Rajiv Ruparelia died in May 2025 following a car accident on the Kampala–Entebbe Expressway. The 35-year-old reportedly lost control of his vehicle before colliding with a barrier.
Anthony Joshua
Meanwhile, British-Nigerian boxing star and former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua survived a serious car crash in Nigeria. The accident, which occurred on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on December 29, 2025, claimed the lives of two people close to him. Joshua sustained injuries and was hospitalised, but was said to be in stable condition at the time of reporting.
