Family of Late Mohbad Warns Against Courtroom Protest

Mohbad

The family of the late singer Mohbad has expressed opposition to actor Yomi Fabiyi’s call for a protest at the next court hearing related to the singer’s death.

Mohbad passed away under mysterious circumstances on September 12, 2023. His body was later exhumed for an autopsy at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). The toxicology report, however, did not reveal any significant findings that could explain his death. Unsatisfied with the results, Mohbad’s family has demanded an independent autopsy.

As the first anniversary of Mohbad’s death approaches, Yomi Fabiyi has urged the public to join a peaceful protest at the upcoming court hearing and suggested that another protest be organized on the anniversary itself to press for justice.

In response, the family released a statement on Wednesday, through a member of their legal team, Monisola Odumosu, cautioning against staging a protest within the court premises. They warned that such actions could disrupt the proceedings and pose a threat to the smooth administration of justice.

The statement emphasized that while everyone has the right to express their grievances, doing so within the court’s vicinity must be done with caution to avoid being charged with contempt of court. The family urged protesters to conduct their activities civilly and not to interfere with the court’s operations.
