Fans applaud Super Eagles and Eguavoen’s victory over Egypt

Nigerian fans praised the Super Eagles’ overall performance in their 1-0 win over seven-time champions Egypt in their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations opener on Tuesday at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium in Garoua.

Kelechi Iheanacho scored the game’s only goal in the 30th minute with a well-placed shot that gave Egypt’s goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy no chance.

The Eagles had 58% possession and 10 shots, six of which were on target, compared to the Pharaohs, who only had three shots, one of which was on target.

Fans praised energetic winger Moses Simon, Ola Aina Wilfred Ndidi, and interim coach Autin Eguavoen for their outstanding performance.

In a tweet, television personality Frank Idoho praised the team’s outstanding performance and ability to contain Salah.

“The Super Eagles actually thwarted the Egyptian team and performed admirably.” I’m very impressed with how we played and restrained Mo Salah. More importantly, I am relieved that Ndidi was not injured. Congratulations, Super Eagles!”

“Moses Simon deserves all the credit he can get for that wonderful work from the flank leading to that goal,” Adewale Adetona wrote on Twitter. Iheanacho performed admirably in terms of ball control and shot.”
Fans have also praised Eguavoen’s coaching impact on the game.

“The players were exciting; it was as if I was watching the Super Eagles of old,” Biola Akinbode wrote. Eguavoen’s master plan worked; we completely dominated and won rightfully.”
