Farmers, Herders Clash Claim 5 Lifes in Ogun | Daily Report Nigeria

In a fresh fight that broke out between farmers and Fulani herdsmen in Idofa area of Imeko-Afon local government area, Ogun State on Saturday, January 15, Five persons lost their life with several others sustaining injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the crisis began when some herdsmen and farmers in a settlement called Ohori engaged themselves in a fight over grazing rights which led to loss of lifes and properties worth millions of naira.

A community leader while narrating the cause of the crisis said;

“The incident which happened on Thursday, angered the people of Aworo community in Yewa North local government area of the state, who chased the herdsmen from their village to Idofa in Imeko, killing three of them and their cows.

“The Aworo people accused the Fulani herdsmen of destroying their farms and water sources through open grazing of cows which has been banned by the Ogun State government a long time ago,”

He also added that following the death of 3 herdsmen who were killed during the fight on saturday, the herders came back for retaliation, this led to the death of two indegines of the community, one of whom was burnt beyond recognition.

It was further gathered that properties which includes houses, maize barns, motorcycles and other valuables, were also burnt in the fracas.

However, the situation was later brought under control with the intervention of the police and Amotekun corps who were deployed to the town.
