Kenyan President, William Ruto has confirmed that a helicopter crash resulted in the loss of nine lives, including key military officials on Thursday.

The helicopter had 11 military personnel on board, including Gen Francis Ogolla, the Chief of Defence for Kenya. Unfortunately, Ogolla was among the casualties.

However, two individuals survived the crash and are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

During a press conference, Ruto extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and described the incident as a “tragic moment.”

He said:
Our motherland has lost one of her most valiant generals. The demise of General Ogolla is a painful loss to me.”

Ogolla previously headed the Kenyan Air Force before rising to the position of deputy military chief.

In 2024, Ruto promoted him to lead the military, despite accusations that he had participated in an attempt to overturn the 2022 presidential election results.

Regardless of the accusations, the President maintained that Ogolla was the most qualified person for the job.
