FCT Police Arrest Notorious Car Theft Syndicate, Recover Stolen Vehicles

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, attached to the Scorpion Squad, have arrested two notorious car-snatching suspects after a targeted operation in Abuja.

Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday, noting that the arrests were made between August 19 and 21, 2025, following credible digital intelligence.

She identified the suspects as Solomon Fanen Manger and Solomon Yande, both from Benue State. According to her, the duo confessed to being long-standing members of a syndicate that specializes in stealing high-value vehicles, particularly Toyota Prado SUVs and Toyota Hilux trucks.

Adeh explained, “The suspects admitted to operating mainly around Wuse, Garki, and the Central Area of the nation’s capital. Within August alone, they stole three Toyota Prado SUVs, two white Toyota Hilux vehicles, and one black Toyota Camry, which they sold for between N7 million and N8 million each.”

The police further disclosed that the suspects named their gang leader as one “Alhaji”, said to be based in Niger Republic, where the stolen cars were delivered.

According to Adeh, “The arrest led to the recovery of a stolen Toyota Hilux with registration number FCTA 13B100CT, their operational black Toyota Matrix with registration number ABC 85 NW, an electronic car jammer, and five (5) rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition.”

She added that a similar case was recorded on August 22, 2025, when operatives of Karu Division, during a surveillance patrol around NEPA Quarters, Karu, intercepted one Daniel Oguata from Kogi State, who was attempting to steal a Toyota Picnic vehicle with registration number RBC 322 JR.

Adeh confirmed, “The suspect was arrested, and the exhibit recovered. All suspects are in custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.”

Troops of the Nigerian Army, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, in collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), have neutralized more than 35 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters during a fierce battle in Kumshe, a border town in Borno State.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the operation was launched on Saturday after ISWAP insurgents staged a pre-dawn attack on military positions in the area.
