The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the establishment of a Disaster Relief Fund, designed to facilitate swift assistance to disaster victims nationwide.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, during a press briefing with State House Correspondents on Monday.

Edun’s announcement came after the FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He explained that the fund will draw financial support from all three tiers of government as well as private sector entities, specifically to aid flood victims.

In conjunction with this, the FEC has formed a Technical Committee tasked with reassessing dams across the country, with a particular focus on the Alau Dam in Borno State, Maiduguri.

The Minister announced that the committee will be chaired by the Minister of Water Resources, Joseph Utsev, and will include other key members.

Recall that the recent devastating floods in Maiduguri, the state capital, resulted in  loss of many lives and property.
