In a formal statement, the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) has announced that it has rejected Samuel Eto’o’s resignation as President. Eto’o, a legendary Cameroonian footballer, took on the role of President in December 2021, but his tenure has been marred by several controversies.
One of the most significant controversies relates to an ongoing feud with former teammate and Manchester United goalkeeper, Andre Onana. This dispute has hurt the national team, with Onana being sent home from the World Cup squad in 2022 and later retiring from international football.
In the aftermath of a disappointing performance at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where Rigobert Song’s team barely qualified from the group stage and was then knocked out by Nigeria in the last 16, Samuel Eto’o submitted his resignation as president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot).

In light of these issues, Fecafoot has rejected Eto’o’s resignation, stating that it is in the best interests of the organization and the national team to continue with his leadership.
The Federation has also acknowledged the need for further reforms and improvements, and it has pledged to work with Eto’o to address these issues. It is hoped that this will lead to a more positive future for the Cameroonian national team, both on and off the field.
Extract of the statement:
‘At the beginning of the meeting, the President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Mr Eto’o Fils Samuel, tendered his resignation to the members of the federal executive organ, inviting them to do likewise in good faith.
‘At the end of discussions and subsequent deliberations, the members of the Executive Committee decided to maintain their current mandates and thus unanimously rejected the President’s resignation.’
