The board moved swiftly after a string of poor results and the Champions League play-off defeat that sent the team into the Europa League.

In a statement on X the club said:

“We have parted ways with Jose Mourinho, who has been the manager of our Professional Football A Team since the 2024-2025 season. We thank him for his efforts for our team and wish him success in his future career.”

Mourinho arrived in Istanbul in June 2024 amid high expectations.

However, a 1–0 aggregate loss to Benfica proved decisive and escalated pressure on the manager. The club then chose a change to halt the slide.

Across his brief spell, Mourinho did not win any trophies.

Fenerbahçe finished second in the Süper Lig, lost their Turkish Cup tie to Galatasaray and bowed out to Rangers in the Europa League last 16.

Those results disappointed the board and fans, and ultimately cost the coach his job.

Off the field, Mourinho sparked rows with rivals and officials.

Galatasaray accused him of racist remarks after a derby; he denied the claim and later filed a lawsuit.

He also criticised referees publicly and faced suspensions, and he clashed with Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk on the touchline.

These incidents added strain to an already tense situation.

The 62-year-old left without silverware in Istanbul after establishing himself as a proven winner at giant clubs including Chelsea, Real Madrid, Porto and Inter Milan.

Meanwhile, Fenerbahçe have not named a replacement; the club says it will focus on steadying results and regrouping for the season ahead.

For fans, the task is clear: rebuild quickly and restore consistency across domestic and European fronts.
