Education ministry warns of sanctions for schools violating SS3 ban directive
The Federal Government has announced a nationwide ban on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) in all public and private secondary schools, effective from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The policy, aimed at tackling examination malpractice and restoring credibility to Nigeria’s education system, was disclosed in a statement signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education.

According to the ministry, the decision followed growing concerns over the abuse of “special centres” and last-minute student movements designed to gain unfair advantage during external examinations.

Under the new directive, all admissions and transfers are now restricted to SS1 and SS2, with the government stressing that no circumstances will warrant admission or transfer into SS3.
Education officials explained that the measure would ensure proper academic monitoring, continuity in teaching and learning, and discourage sharp practices linked to public examinations.
The ministry directed school proprietors, principals and administrators nationwide to comply strictly with the policy, warning that any violation would attract sanctions in line with existing education laws and regulations.
Reaffirming its stance, the Federal Government said the ban underscores its commitment to upholding academic standards, promoting fairness, and restoring integrity to public examinations across the country.
