The Federal Government has launched the seventh phase of mass trials for suspected terrorists detained across the country, with proceedings underway at Kainji, Niger State.

The National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), disclosed this in a statement to defence correspondents in Abuja on Wednesday night.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, National Coordinator of the NCTC, Major General Adamu Garba Laka, described the trials as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s commitment to combatting terrorism through lawful and transparent means.

“It is encouraging to see the judiciary, law enforcement, and legal practitioners converging in duty to uphold the rule of law while addressing violent extremism,” General Laka said.

He noted that Nigeria has strengthened its capacity to prosecute terrorism-related offences, a development that has helped address concerns raised by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), represented by Director of Public Prosecution Mohammed Babadoko Abubakar, praised the collaboration between local and international partners in supporting the trials.

Fagbemi reiterated the Federal Government’s determination to secure justice for victims and accused persons within a framework that respects human rights and the constitution.
