The Federal Government has filed a fresh 20-count charge against Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
Daily Report Nigeria reports that the charges were filed on Tuesday in Abuja by the government.
The fresh charges against Emefiele followed the application by the government to withdraw the “illegal possession of firearms” case it filed against the suspended CBN Governor at the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mohammed Bakodo Abubakar told Justice Nicholas Oweibo that the application followed the result of further investigations.

However, defence counsel Joseph Daudu (SAN) argued that the government was in disobedience of the court’s order granting Emefiele bail, calling for the application to be stepped down.
Recall that the court had on July 25 granted Emefiele a N20million bail on a two-count charge of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

But Emefiele was rearrested by the DSS after fighting off prison officials at the court’s premises.
Addressing journalists after the day’s proceedings, Mr. Abubakar said the fresh charges – with 20 counts – were filed at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.
One of the counts accuses Emefiele of “conferring unlawful advantages”.
