Federal Government begins payment of N77,000 Allowance to corps members on March 26, 2025.

As promised, the N77,000 increase has been fulfilled but the payment of arrears is yet to begin.

After six(6) months, the Federal Government of Nigeria under the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration has finally fulfilled its promise of Seventy- Seven thousand (N77,000) naira payment allowance to corps members.

This was noted yesterday as some corps members shared screenshots of their alerts on different social media handles as proof that the payment has begun as promised.

Daily Report Nigeria noted that this development comes weeks after a corps member, Raye, in a viral video called out the Tinubu government over the hike of prices in the market, while N33,000 is being paid to corps members despite the high cost of living in the country.

It seems that the government has listened to the voice of the masses this time and has acted as it should.

Recall that the promise of an increase of allowance from N33,000 to N77,000 in alignment with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024 was made in September 2024.

Most corps members who rejoiced at the pronouncement were quickly thrown into sorrow when they received N33,000 the other month.

The issue then generated lots of concerns as many were disillusioned by the promises of the Government.

Consequently, in a press address, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande in defense of the criticism labelled against President Tinubu stated that the delay was as a result of required budgetary allocations which were not in place at the time President Tinubu approved the bill of increase. He further urged corps members to be patient as the allowance would be paid including the arrears as promised by the government

After the viral corp member incident, the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, also gave the assurance while addressing corps members in Abuja that payment begin in earnest by the end of March.

Presently, corp members have confirmed the receipt of the N77,000 payment as there was massive rejoicing yesterday on media as corp members posted their alerts expressing happiness.

This is a good development and a commendable act by the Federal Government. However, while some corps members rejoiced at the fulfillment of the N77,000 payment, many are still expectant on the yet-to-be-fulfilled arrears payment as promised by President Tinubu.
