“FG has announced the commencement of applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarships overseas,” Olusegun wrote.
According to the PTDF, the overseas scholarship is designed for MSc and PhD candidates pursuing programmes linked to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. The fund explained that successful applicants will receive full financial support, including tuition fees, return air tickets, accommodation, living allowances, health insurance, and bench fees where required.
In a statement, the agency said the programme aims to strengthen local expertise through international exposure.
“The 2026 Overseas MSc and PhD Scholarships provide access to world-class training, research facilities, and global expertise, while developing indigenous capacity in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector,” PTDF stated.
PTDF stressed that the scholarship is highly competitive, noting that only applicants with strong academic backgrounds and relevant professional experience will be shortlisted. Candidates will be assessed based on academic performance, research proposals, professional memberships, and how relevant their chosen course is to the oil and gas industry.
For eligibility, MSc applicants must have at least a Second Class Lower (2.2) degree, while a Second Class Upper (2.1)gives added advantage. Applicants must have completed NYSC, be computer-literate, and possess five O’Level credits, including English and Mathematics.
PhD applicants are also required to submit a five-page research proposal, clearly outlining their research objectives, methodology, and data collection plans.
The agency further warned applicants to ensure their National Identity Number (NIN) is properly verified before applying.
“Multiple applications or submission of falsified documents will result in automatic disqualification,” PTDF cautioned.
Interested candidates are to apply online through scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng, choosing only approved programmes at PTDF partner institutions. The deadline for submission is February 27, 2026.
